Our garden this year hasn't been the most "fruitful" one. We planted Watermelons, Cucumbers (two different kinds), Pumpkins, and Tomatoes. We literally didn't harvest a single tomato the entire summer until a week or two ago. As we've heard from many, this year was NOT the year for tomatoes. What little we did get early on fell culprit to one of the 6 little hands in our home--but that was maybe just 1 or 2 tomatoes.
The watermelon turned out great--it was small but pretty tasty (you'd think I'd have a better adjective than tasty. I'll consult Rachel Bryson). The watermelon ended up being the pride of our garden.
Before I comment on the pumpkins and cucumbers, I want to warn everyone that 1) wasps hold grudges, 2) they communicate with bees, and 3) they plan revenge together. Last summer and this summer, I've had an on going war with the wasps that try to attach their homes to our home. Most of these wars start with me spraying their homes with a hose, then spraying them as they get near me, then spraying myself or kids around me because the wasp got too close, and then me really getting upset and making sure that wasp never returns. The last part has to do with me gunning the wasp down and giving it the nice stomp down.
The wasps had the last laugh this year since they persuaded the bees to demonstrate the power of cross-pollination with the cucumbers and the pumpkins. See the picture below. We officially have green pumpkins and orange cucumbers. Maybe we'll carve all of them for Halloween. Anyone for pumpbers and cucumkins?
This post is dedicated to the Rowberrys who helped re-kindle the flame we once had as frequent bloggers.
The length of this post is dedicated to Jill Moyer--the power novel blogger.
Had I used a clever word to describe the tastiness of our watermelon, it would have also been dedicated to Rachel Bryson.
And last but not least, this blog post is dedicated to Jared White who will one day actually start a blog.

A. Thanks for the first ever blog post dedicated to us.
B. Bees and Wasps are terrible co-conspirators, I can attest!
and C. We're in for carving the cucmkins and pumpbers if you need any extra hands. :)
That is so weird! Those pictures are really so crazy. I didn't know that could happen. Very funny!

Ah! How could I miss commenting on this post? I'm not sure how helpful I'll be in helping you to find a better adjective than "tasty." The first thing that comes to mind is "pure juicy deliciousness." Or maybe something like "luscious." Or--and this is a word I just came across recently--perhaps the watermelon was "toothsome." So many great options; I'm glad you chose to consult me.
And if anyone is tallying the votes, I also think Jared should start a blog.
Oh--I hear a baby crying, and it sounds like it might be mine. I guess my time is up! Glad you had such tasty success with your garden. :)
I love it. Sorry your garden wasn't what you wanted it to be.
